Restylane

– Is a long-lasting crystal-clear gel for filling out lips, facial wrinkles and facial folds. With QMed’s stabilization process the hyaluronic acid in Restylane is almost identical to that naturally found in the body and only very slightly modified (0.5 – 1%).

– Is biologically degradable and is naturally integrated into our tissues thus allowing important nutritive agents to pass freely through the cells and fragments of the gel.

– Restylane is injected into the skin or lips, and it takes less than 30 minutes.

Side-Effects/Risks
Reactions are uncommon, 1 in 2000 persons have experienced transient swelling, redness and tenderness at or near the treatment site(s) up to several weeks post-treatment. Consult a doctor beforehand.

Recovery
Immediately after the treatment the area can be slightly swollen and red. This is a normal result of the injection, and it goes away in 72 hours.

Results
The results depend on many factors, such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle, age and the degree of perfection desired by the individual About 50-80% of the effect remains after 6 months. Most people choose to have a touchup done within a year of the original treatment. Clinical studies show that Restylane can offer a high degree of patient satisfaction even up to one year later. One can replenish natural beauty whenever it’s needed. A touchup can be performed any time after the previous treatment.

What is Hyaluronic Acid?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a natural complex sugar in the human body. It’s a component of the dermis connective tissue matrix, found in skin, muscle and bone. It acts as a sponge and absorbs water more than 1000 times its weight. It attracts water which increases its volume and density, aiding in the transport of essential nutrients to the skins viable cells.

Which areas can be treated?

Typically, the gabellar lines (between the eyebrows), the nasolabial folds (from the base of the nose to the angle of the mouth) and the lips are treated. Please consult Dr. Pacheco for your specific needs and find out how Restylane can be used for off label use such as for the forehead wrinkles.

Which result can be obtained from a lip-treatment?

The vermilion border (line of the mouth) and lips can be injected to accentuate the lip line and minimize kissing lines. The lips will look full or even pouty if desired.

Do the injections hurt?

It depends on the individual and pain sensitivity. The injections may prick a little. A topical anesthetic is needed for treatment of wrinkles and folds, so the injections are relatively painless.

For the lips, a nerve block can be given by Dr. Pacheco.

Can the material be removed?

Yes, it can be but it is expensive. Restylane is a natural material that dissolves with time. If unsure about how much filler is needed, ask Dr. Pacheco. She can give you a very conservative look, if that is what you want.

How long is the effect?

The duration of treatments varies on factors such as the structure of the skin, lifestyle, age, the degree of perfection demanded by the individual. 50-80% of the effect remains after 6 months but can last for up to a year.

Most people have a touch-up treatment done within a year.
